      Description

      1588 – Navy Strength Gin

Introducing ‘1588’, our latest Navy Strength Gin, which sails in at a hearty 57% ABV, paying homage to England’s maritime triumph over the Spanish Armada. Inspired by the fruits and spices of 16th-century trade routes, we’ve combined delicious flavours of Orange and Currants with the warming spices of Cinnamon, Ginger, Allspice, Rosemary, Coriander and Angelica. The resulting juniper led gin has a wonderful fruity and robust finish which certainly packs a punch – brace yourselves for a taste voyage like no other!

              Ingredients:

              The Botanicals

              01/06

To make our gin we use authentic Tudor garden botanicals including rose, lemon balm, sage, rosemary and old English lovage fused with the more familiar juniper, coriander and lemon peel.

With Stratford Gin we employ the ‘London Dry’ method of production, nothing can be added to the Gin other than the flavours imparted during distillation. For an added challenge and to ensure we really can say that we have created a handcrafted product we do this using the single shot method, meaning all the ingredients required to make one batch of gin are added in at the same time. We don’t make a concentrate and blend this down to get the flavour we want. This means we need to put the same love, attention and passion into every batch to ensure they each have a consistent delicious flavour.

                Ingredients:

                Real Fruit

                02/06
Our fruit gins and liqueurs are made using 100% real fruit. Using Stratford Dry as the base, we blend this with the fruit juice or, as with our Mulberry Gin Liqueur, we leave the mulberries to steep in our Stratford Dry for several weeks.
                  Distillation:

                  Portia & Ophelia

                  03/06

To produce any spirit you need a Still. Choosing the right still is a major decision for any distillery and we are happy we have made the right choice with ours. Here at Shakespeare Distillery we like to fuse the old with the new to create something special and our stills ‘Portia’ and ‘Ophelia’ are no different.

Portia and Ophelia are very modern, discerning ladies, who help produce something very special. Portia, our original still, has a capacity of 250 litres whilst her big sister Ophelia is 500 litres, both are heavily insulated to prevent loss of heat, reducing the power requirement. This is combined with a computer controlled cooling condenser, which lets only the necessary amount of water in to cool the vapour down. Overall this means they are pretty environmentally friendly as far as stills go.

They also use an efficient amount of copper too. Copper can play an important part in removing undesirable sulphur compounds when making alcohol. To this end our ladies have copper strategically placed in the vapour path, meaning every drop of alcohol comes into contact with it before leaving the still. Come join us for a distillery tour to see them up close, where we will explain how they work in more detail.

                    Packaging:

                    Bottling & Packaging

                    04/06
All operations are performed by us onsite. This means we distil, bottle, label, seal and distribute all from the distillery building and all by hand and in small batches with love, care and attention. As part of the tour or Gin School you will be able to see our entire operation.
                      Packaging:

                      Eco Friendly

                      05/06

Two years of experimentation led to the creation of our signature Stratford Dry Gin, which captures the flavours of herbs and flowers from the Tudor garden and combines with the boldness of juniper and sweetness of Mediterranean citrus. This award-winning (IWSC Silver Outstanding) London Dry gin stands out from the market as one of the few herbal style gins.
