Retail Assistant

Location: Base location is Stratford upon Avon
Reporting To: Store Manager
Position: Permanent, up to 31 hours per week

Join the team at Shakespeare Distillery and be the face of our 1 High Street store, delivering outstanding customer service while helping visitors discover and purchase our award-winning products. This dynamic role goes beyond retail—alongside selling, restocking, and merchandising, you’ll play a key part in enhancing the customer experience. You may also support immersive events at our town centre venue, Judith’s, by welcoming guests, serving drinks, and assisting event hosts. With opportunities to be involved in external events, this is a fantastic role for someone passionate about great service, storytelling, and craft spirits.


Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Undertake retail sales of our products in our Stratford High St. shop
  2. Merchandise the shop and keep it stocked up and tidy throughout the day
  3. Offer customers taster samples and suggested serving pairings of products
  4. Manage sales processes through our till / EPOS system
  5. Cash up at the end of the day and prepare the shop for the next day
  6. Gain sufficient knowledge to be able to talk confidently and knowledgably about Shakespeare Distillery and the wider craft spirits category to guests 
  7. Ensure the adherence to the ‘Challenge 25’ alcohol retailing procedure, and maintain the necessary records
  8. Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests (if working at events where a Shakespeare Distillery bar service is in operation, this could include in Judith’s or events such as a food festival)
  9. Support other one-off activities as required
Desired Skills and Experience:
  1. Previous retail experience
  2. You will be a confident and engaging communicator with a strong focus on customer service
  3. You should be organised with an ability to work unsupervised
  4. Be friendly and engaging and be able to build relationships with people with ease
  5. Demonstrable sales skills – be able to maximise sales opportunities and encourage up-sell
  6. You will have, or be able to acquire quickly, a strong knowledge base of the craft spirits sector
  7. You should strive to work efficiently, looking for opportunities to improve working practice
  8. You should be able to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  9. Numeracy to GCSE C-grade or above (or equivalent)

Your own car and clean driving licence is desirable.

Uniform is provided in the form of either polo-shirt or jumper.

Part time Distillery Host & Tour Guide

Are you passionate about spirits? Are you eager to learn and share this knowledge with others? Are you an engaging story teller, able to entertain groups of people? If so you may be the ideal person to join our distillery experiences team.

Having been awarded Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award 2021 we are busier than ever with our distillery experiences, which typically run from Wednesday to Sunday each week. Our experiences comprise of Distillery Tours, Gin Schools (where you get to develop a gin recipe, distil and bottle it, all whilst having a few drinks and laughs along the way) cocktail masterclasses and gin tasting river cruises.

We now have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Part Time Host and Tour Guide to support the delivery of these experiences with hours from 20 – 30hrs a week to suit, you will often be the first point of contact so it is important that you are warm, friendly and confident with a positive outlook and a great ambassador for the distillery.


The Role Responsibilities and Duties are as follows:
  1. Deliver an informative, fun and engaging distillery experience for all guests
  2. Review bookings for the day and produce the daily guest check in sheet
  3. Prepare the experience space for each event, ensure it is clean, laid out correctly with correct amount of glassware, equipment and garnish in place
  4. Greet and check guests in
  5. Gain sufficient knowledge to be able to talk confidently and knowledgably about Shakespeare Distillery and the wider craft spirits category to guests
  6. Ensure the distillery shop is adequately stocked throughout the day
  7. Liaise with the distillery team to understand what production activities are underway each day to be able to accurately explain this to guests attending an experience
  8. Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests
  9. Support other team members by helping in the shop/café/phones as and when the need arises to maintain a high standard of visitor experience
  10. Support other one-off activities as required
