If summer had an official cocktail, we’d argue it would be the spritz.
Light, refreshing and effortlessly stylish, the spritz has become the drink of choice for everything from garden parties and barbecues to lazy afternoons in the sunshine. Scroll through social media, wander into a pub garden or browse a drinks menu, and chances are you’ll spot a spritz (or three) being enjoyed nearby!
But what is it about this sparkling serve that has everyone raising a glass?
The Summer of the Spritz
While the Aperol Spritz has long been associated with sunny Italian piazzas, the spritz has evolved far beyond its Venetian roots. Today’s drinkers are embracing all kinds of variations, from fruity berry-infused serves to delicate elderflower creations.
In fact, the trend shows no signs of slowing down. Recent industry reports revealed that spritzes accounted for almost half of all cocktail sales during peak summer periods, while searches for elderflower-based serves such as the Hugo Spritz have soared as drinkers seek lighter, fresher alternatives.
And honestly, we can see why.
What makes a great Spritz?
The beauty of a spritz lies in its simplicity.
A great spritz is bright, refreshing and easy to enjoy. It’s the kind of drink that doesn’t demand your full attention but somehow makes every occasion feel a little more special. Add plenty of ice, a splash of sparkle and a sunny spot in the garden, and you’re halfway there.
Perhaps that’s why the spritz has become synonymous with summer. It’s relaxed. It’s sociable. And it’s wonderfully uncomplicated.
Introducing our new Summer Spritzes
With the nation firmly in spritz mode, we’ve been busy creating two new ready-to-pour cocktails that make serving the perfect spritz easier than ever!
Judith’s Pink Spritz
Bursting with juicy berry flavours and a bright citrus finish, Judith’s Pink Spritz combines our much-loved Judith’s Pink Gin with raspberry cordial and zesty lemon juice.
Simply pour over ice, top with sparkling wine and a splash of soda, then garnish with fresh raspberries for a vibrant summer serve that’s as pretty as it is refreshing.
Elderflower Summer Spritz
For those who prefer something a little more floral, Elderflower Summer Spritz is our version of a Hugo Spritz, blending our Elderflower & Quince Gin with elderflower cordial and lemon juice for a light, elegant cocktail that’s made for sunny afternoons.
Finished with sparkling wine, soda and a garnish of lemon or fresh mint, it’s summer in a glass.
Why we’re loving the Spritz Trend
As distillers, we’re always fascinated by how drinking habits evolve. While big, bold cocktails will always have their place, there’s something refreshing about seeing drinkers embrace lighter serves that focus on flavour, freshness and sharing moments with friends.
The spritz isn’t about complexity. It’s about making the most of the season.
Your new favourite Summer Serve?
Whether you’re team berry or team elderflower, our new Spritzes are designed to help you enjoy the summer with minimal effort and maximum enjoyment.
Just add bubbles, gather good company and enjoy. After all, if there’s one trend we’re happy to raise a glass to, it’s the summer of the spritz.
